Abstract The study of medical thrillers is a budding field of research within the genre of professionally-based fiction. These novels usually reflect the practices, the discourse, and the socio-cultural ways of the medical community. However, on reading the more recent novels, one has the feeling that the representation of professional reality is gradually giving way to the lure of the closely related thriller genre.
